Max Finch – Top 10 Takeaways

Max Finch Takeaway Video

Well, the end of the semester has arrived and with it my final post.

This was challenging, the added grading criteria of  “Creativity” made it a challenge to create a video that was engaging. Though I’m sure my video, a rhyming song, is engaging — it’s also somewhat embarrassing. So enjoy it while it lasts haha.

To add on to the challenge, rapping about what I learned was made harder by trying to include details relevant to all 10 topics. I hope by including the lyrics in the video the points come across, as the video is relatively short. After completing the video I noticed the 4-5 minute time length requirement, oops. I hope to take the time to go over what I learned more in detail on this post.

WordPress

I’ve been using WordPress for a few years, it’s easily one of the most advanced and customizable web development tools available today. Giving users the ability to create blogs, shops, and company websites with drag and drop features, mobile app management, and bullet proof user interface is a huge plus.

Video

Video content is expected to reach 80% of online activity by 2020. If you’re not into video now, you should take the time to learn it.

Social Media

My favorite platform, Instagram, is a major player in the industry. Others include Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. Three of those four platforms rely on the former video aspect. The additional ability to network through these platforms is a major plus.

Networking

Social media gives me the ability to network in ways formerly not possible. By simply DM’ing someone requesting a mutual favor for a favor I’m able to reach hundreds of thousands of people, drive traffic, or simply build stronger connections. The key, as Gary V said, is to stay humble and think about what you can offer rather than what you want.

Email

Composing proper emails, sending emails at the right times, permission to send emails, and giving opt-out ability are all powerful tools for E-Mail marketing. Optimizing for mobile is a major plus as well, most E-Mails today are viewed on mobile devices.

Mobile marketing

More people own mobile devices than toothbrushes. As disgusting as that is, the fact is also very humbling. Mobile devices are major players when driving marketing traffic to your marketing goal. Mobile devices serve as the forefront of social media viewers as well, where 93% of purchasing decisions are based off. Ultimately, mobile is where consumers attention is.

SEO

SEO is a powerful point on this list. Without SEO, your website would be lost in millions to billions of others on the internet. But we have SEO, and the way you impliment it determines if your website is still lost amongst the other un-optimized websites, or is front page top search material. Google basis SEO on several factors using long and short tail keywords, usefulness and credibility of your website (how well it’s put together) and bounce rate among other things. Fortunately, programs like YOAST exist to make SEO an easier task!

Google My Business

One of my major takeaways from class includes Google My Business. Something even a lot of small businesses in Medford lack, this tool helps drive online traffic to foot traffic by providing reviews, directions, availability information, photos, posts, questions, and more. Combined with Adwords, GMB is a major tool in the small business world.

Adwords

Believe it or not, I actually worked with Adwords when I designed video games for MTV. Though on a mobile application level, Adwords was easy to implement and understand. Metrics provided were useful and informative. In this class, however, I learned more about the business side of Adwords. The use of extensions, metrics, and how to reach the top of the list for the least amount of money in your bid.

E-commerce

When I worked with PNW Paradise and their clothing line early February, I worked with Spotify and helped launch Seths new website. What a powerful and innovative tool. Additionally, woo-commerce, when paired with WordPress, is such an incredibly powerful tool. Online shopping is easy, efficient, and a no-brainer, especially when combined with social media marketing and Adwords. If your customers are online, let them shop online!

This concludes my list. More extensive than my video I’ll admit, but I hope both my video and this post help you understand internet marketing a little more than I did when I first started this class.
